Great Poetry

1. Duritz's "Mrs. Potter..."

2. Rudyard Kipling's "If"

"...If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with triumph and disaster And treat those two impostors just the same..."

They are impostors.

"They are imposters"? I have read this poem quite a few times and have wondered about this stanza. The not making thoughts your aim is sound advice, but what do you think triumph and disaster are impersonating?

They are impersonating something important, something relevant.

There are no triumphs or disaster; only events we must react to.
